Velvet Blanche is an artistic envoirement by photographer and multimedia artist Kai.
Rather than being defined through a few works, this space exists to showcase multiple perspectives in a more workshop-like environment. From artworks to mood boards and curated music, it is more than a simple portfolio.
With a background in photography, Kai's artistic approach is to challenge the linear process of pictures and their editing. He disrupts and blends them into different mediums to blur boundaries. Results are often a mix of different media like digital photography, analogue & instant film, collages, video, and 3D - or their processes within. Often results show contemporary ascpects as the aesthetics are connected to certain software versions, often changing within months.
The pieces are primarily inspired by nature, predominantly geology and botany. They incorporate references from various fields, including natural sciences, humanities (such as psychology and ontology), history, and art history.
The works are designed to inspire on many different levels and to find a personal attraction. As a call to action, they are, besides their visual appeal, crafted to question and expand one's understanding of the world we live in and its nature.
Born 1990 in Heidelberg, growing up nearby
2006 moving to Stuttgart
2008-2011 apprenticeship as photographer
from 2010 working as an assistant for other photographers and artists, first studies and artworks with focus on Polaroid, later pixel moshing.
2012-13 living and working in London as assistant and photographer before moving back to Stuttgart
since 1014 proper self teaching in arts, natural science and other fields mentioned above
2017-18 second base in Hamburg for a year
since 2018 working and living in Stuttgart
